How to build a model piper
airplane
In real life the Piper Arrow 2
is one of the
most reliable and yet attractive airplanes ever built.
This six-seater has an interesting
collection of features
that makes it suitable for training pilots, business and commercial and
private
use. Its’ superior quality and sheer ruggedness have kept it a staple
in the
Piper fleet for decades on end.
The piper is very popular with flight
instructors but it
also the airplane that most flight school graduates tend to purchase.
Sadly not many people on the face of the
earth can afford
the purchase. This is not a major problem to model piper airplane
enthusiasts
who just need to purchase the much more affordable kit and built one
for themselves,
albeit a miniature version of the real thing.
The Aviomodelli’s Piper Arrow 2 kit is
advertised as
extremely easy to build, but the practical truth is that it requires
quite a
lot of work to build. However I must quickly add that it is a lot of
fun
building this beauty.
This piper airplane is actually a balsa
and ply kit with
vinyl-covered foam-core wings and tail feathers.
The model piper airplane kit also
contains very detailed
instructions for construction written in several languages and fairly
easy to
follow. The instructions are right on the plan and consist of a full
list of
every part identified by number, material, name and size. The plan
shows every
part by its identification number.
The other useful factor about the
construction instructions
is that the parts are numbered in the order in which they are put to
use in the
construction. Those who have tried to built a few model airplanes will
appreciate how useful this simple feature is.
Your construction work starts with the
fuselage which is
the part of this model piper airplane that requires the most work. All
the
plywood parts interlock to fit perfectly so one has to be careful. Very
tiny
nails are provided to hold the parts together. There is a large opening
at the
bottom of the fuselage which provides access to the radio equipment.
Next will be the tail feathers which are
fairly easy to
put together. Simply follow the instructions and then move on to the
wings. You
can then follow through up to the final bit which is the radio
installation.
This model piper airplane is a lot of fun
to build and the
kit has numerous extremely unique features that also make it very
interesting
to build.
The looks and performance of the final
product both in the
air and the ground is bound to give you plenty of joy and satisfaction.
