Factors to take into
consideration for successful
Indoor rc airplane flying for duration
Radio controlled or rc airplane
flying is really
catching on as a hobby and seems to attract a wide range of different
sorts of
people as enthusiasts.
From engineers to electronics experts and
DC (direct
current) engine enthusiasts, to practically anybody interested in
flying, rc
airplanes has attracted a diverse and wide range of people.
There are actually two main types of rc
airplane
competitions for duration. Those carried out indoors and those done
outdoors.
In several cases it is possible with some rc airplane models to do duty
on both
fronts. That is fly reasonably well in both outdoor and indoor
competitions.
Still the tendency amongst developers and hobbyists is to specialize.
For several reasons the indoors rc
airplane competitions
tend to be a lot more trickier and therefore much more challenging for
hobbyists. This is because of reasons we shall see as this article
progresses.
Recent technological advances have
brought in more
excitement into indoor rc airplane flying. In the last few years, major
advancements have allowed for light weight motors and equally light
weight
rechargeable batteries. This has had a major impact and has resulted in
higher
efficiency and higher performance.
While weight is obviously as major factor
that impacts on
how long you can keep the rc airplane in the air, the real challenge is
in
being able to achieve maximum thrust while using the lowest possible
current
draw from the batteries. That is what rc airplane duration competition
is all
about.
Other smaller details will make a huge
difference in the
performance of the rc airplane. For example the size of the building
where the
competition is being held is important. The larger the building the
better for
rc airplane flying because it would allow for flight in larger circles
which
would require less input into directional changes which are a major
consumption
of power in rc airplane flying.
The whole success of rc airplane flying
for duration
simply hinges on maximum thrust while using the lowest possible current
draw.
This is by far the single most important factor to consider for
success.
